Its looks like the DOT and President Bush are pressing ahead on plans to start up the pilot program to allow Mexican trucks access to U.S. highways against the will of Congress. In an article from Landline: “It’s apparent the Bush administration is thumbing its nose at the will of the American people and Congress,” said Todd Spencer, executive vice president of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association.
The Bush administration seems to be bent on launching this program over the objection of Congress and much of the American public. Congress has asked that certain reasonable conditions be met to insure the safety of American highways. There are still too many questions out there on the safety of Mexican domiciled trucks. We have seen in the last few days of problems with foreign born truck drivers unable to speak English as required by law. Do we really need to bring more potential language and cultural problems into an already stressed situation? Our industry has enough problems without bringing more complications into the mix without proper study and enforcement.

I think were getting into dangerous territory with this, the trucking family is already rather protective against outsiders and I worry about what problems this could cause on the road. Hopefully it wont go further than language barriers
Keep up the good work guys, i have only just found this site via wayne’s old site and it looks really good
