No Truck Parking SignIt’s in all the headlines. What do you do with all these trucks? This sign wasn’t in my neighborhood where I got a ticket, but it’s a sign we are all familiar with.

There’s a very wide street in the back of where I live. The back of my complex faces it, the back of another apartment complex faces it and the backyards of some houses face this street. It could be called an alley except it’s so wide. There’s no parking on one side but there are no signs on the other side and no cars park there.

I leave my truck at the truck stop for a variety of reasons, but I park behind my place when we load and unload groceries, laundry and anything else that gets used on the road.

I come out of the back gate and there’s a cop writing my truck a parking ticket. I ask, “What’s Up?”, yeah, it’s my truck and I only got back this morning from being gone a month. Apparently, my neighbors are complaining, they’ve been getting calls. Calls? We’ve been gone a month and the truck has only been parked for a few hours and they’re getting calls? I get a ticket for a commercial vehicle parking in a residential neighborhood.

Bored Neighborhood Watch

Calls = One “neighbor” knows someone or has gotten all of his other neighbors to call in and bug the police to stop arresting drug dealers and speeders to come and protect them from this giant truck that has invaded their peaceful piece of paradise in the middle of the city of Las Vegas.

People want their stuff delivered, stuff to be on the store shelves, stuff is supposed to be available when and where they want it. Stuff doesn’t just happen. Stuff doesn’t magically appear. Stuff is delivered by their neighbor who is trying to run a business delivering stuff so their homes can be filled with stuff.

I am not the only one in Vegas or the only one in the country that has had a problem finding a place to park their rig when we’re not out delivering stuff. I’ve read reports of people with acres of land, not being able to park their rigs on their own land.

Dirt Lots

Any piece of vacant lot in Vegas is being rented for truck parking for all the construction trucks that have to park somewhere overnight. There are truck stops for dirt trucks and then there are truck stops for road trucks. There are a lot of trucks in Vegas. My truck is fairly nice and we don’t idle in our neighborhood I go out of my way to be respectful, but we would like a few hours to make it easier to load before we’re gone for a month or more.

I get it. I understand a few bad apples have ruined it for the rest of us. Give them parking tickets, give them littering tickets, noise tickets or whatever else. I get it, but then again, I don’t get it.

What’s the solution? The solution to parking at night? How about a solution for parking anywhere? I’m really open for suggestions here.
