I would have loved to have written about a device I found, but I couldn’t find one!
Since my article (and ticket) about parking back here. I’ve been keeping my truck and trailer at a nearby truck stop. It’s not the safest neighborhood, so I try and park close to the buildings and on the side that has the fence. There’s security, but he might be too busy breaking up the fights in the casino.
If I need to park close to the house, there’s a dirt lot about three blocks away. Which got me thinking… There are devices to alert you when your truck has been stolen, but the major problem most truckers have is having their truck broken into.
Sometimes I wish my truck would be stolen, but not with all my stuff in it. When I’m home, I clean out the truck of the expensive stuff, but if I’m in a truck stop or anywhere else, I’d like to know so I can at least run out and get a license plate number while I’m calling the police.
I’ve looked at all the wireless auto alarms, but they only alert you when your car has been stolen and can track it by GPS and all those bells and whistles.
What we need is a motion detector to detect motion inside the cab. The unit will then call or text message my cell phone so I can run out of the truck stop or at least call the police and have them meet me at my truck.
It can’t be WIFI because you’re not always parked in a hot spot. And it can’t be just a noise maker because no one cares about those anymore. Anyone ever seen anything like this? And where? Want to develop one?

I am consulting a company that is developing such an item.
Problem is costs of start up production.
Item designed for auto, boat RV or trucks. Will detected motion, door open and
then will call one to nine programed numbers. NO ALARMS sound at this point.
Cost may be a problem running just under $100 at start up production time.
Is $100 out of the question and is there a big market?
I think $100 would be reasonable. I believe there is about 3 million long haul trucks on the road right now so there is definitely a market in there somewhere among truckers. Company drivers can’t install a hardware alarm in a company’s truck and even owner operators want something simple that works.
I would add one thing, because so many truckers and RV’ers have pets, that they keep that in mind. If you could choose between movement or a door opening or both that might be better.
Let us know when it’s ready!!!
