There are several ways to take your favorite TV shows in the cab with you. From VCR tapes to creating DVD’s from your TiVo. If you have a good wifi connection you can view shows online at most of the major network websites ( nbc.com cbs.com etc…) Not every show is a full episode and only a limited number of shows are available. Hit the “jump” for your Christmas gift!
Conan The Barbarian from the Beta only site.
You can’t go to full screen from the embedded player and since movies are only on the beta site, sorry for the tiny screen! Internet Explorer has a problem you can ignore and it might mess up the Life on the Road theme on this one post you’re looking at. (Hey, that’s why it’s called Beta, it’s still a work in progress).
There’s a new venture between NBC and News Corp (Fox) that may be the place to go watch TV and movies. It’s called Hulu.com (where do they get these names?) It’s still in Beta and you can ask for an invite at the main site (it took about a month for mine to come in) but there’s also an open public version at openhulu.com the public version still has plenty of shows, old and new. NBC is so committed to this, that they’ve taken their content off of iTunes and YouTube.
There are plenty of old episodes to keep you busy for hours and hours from Hill Street Blues, Alfred Hitchcock, Night Gallery and Battlestar Galactica for the super geeks. There are some clips like from when SNL was funny, but most are full episodes.
Content from at least a dozen TV networks and two major film studios is promised
New shows like 30 Rock, Simpsons and even Tin Man from the Scifi channel are listed. Not very many movies yet and only on the Beta site, like Conan, Master and Commander and a few others.
Commercials are expected in something like this, but at the moment they are fairly low key and most of us expect commercials during TV.
The quality of the player itself is good enough to watch full screen and it starts playing almost immediately, even when jumping around in a movie.
I’ve spent about two straight days watching Outer Limits, Night Gallery, Dragnet, Adam 12, Emergency, I could go on and on… Let us know in the comments what you enjoyed watching over there and what you’d like to see that is or was on NBC or FOX and I’ll pass it on!
Enjoy! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! Watch your bandwidth if you’re on a broadband card or wifi that restricts your total bandwidth (Flying J). A few shows a week shouldn’t be a problem though.
