I know this has nothing to do with trucking, but I just published my last post about trading with China when I look at CNN and see this about a beating in China.
Death pits technology against Chinese control
The construction company manager was driving his car when he witnessed an ugly scene: a team of about 50 city inspectors beating villagers who tried to block trucks from unloading trash near their homes.Wei took out his cell phone and began taking pictures. The city inspectors saw Wei and then attacked him in a beating that lasted five minutes. By the time it was over, the 41-year-old Wei was slumped unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital but was dead on arrival.
Read the entire article here and then ask why are we dealing with these people? Why are they getting the Olympics? Why is American business bending over for this country? Oh yeah, I almost forgot - A billion new customers.
Wait… Won’t China make anything we’re selling them so expensive no one will be able to afford it? You think China will force people to buy Chinese because it’s the right thing to do for China?
Or maybe it’s just me.

It’s funny I should read this as I’m hauling rice out of Brooklyn, NY to McKees Rocks, PA, from one Chinese business to another. The bills are even in Chinese except for a few notations for me to sign in English.
Both of these businesses have brought the 3rd world here with them. Rats all over the place, birds flying around the building doing “business” on the food goods. The workers are working like mad, but not getting much done. They work hard, not smart.
I suppose the question also would be why are good Americans supporting Chinese business? Money. We have good values, except that we will forget about them if it means we get cheap goods. Granted, alternative goods are hard to find.
The Chinese common folks are good people, but they’ve let their corrupt government fail them. Their situation is much different from ours if you look at their history. The common man there generally hasn’t had the power to do much of anything with his government. We should know better and stop the support with out dollars now.
Something to think about the next time we head into Wal-Mart.
