So I was flipping thru one of the publications that I pick up from time to time at the truckstop - gives me something to do when the hubby runs what I call the “same old boring way” and there is nothing new for me to look at.
And I think I may have found a glimmer of hope for us all….
“DEADHORSE, Alaska — A high demand for oil drilling pipe and steel, as well as the addition of seasonal ice roads have increased trucking activity to support oil exploration on Alaska’s North Slope. Business has jumped so much, it’s attracting outside trucking firms to the state. “
Wow - that would be great if they could actually find some oil for us wouldn’t it? Maybe it would ease some of our demand since there is a lack of supply. Not only for fuel use - but also for experienced drivers as well.
I would like to think of this short little blurb as a glimmer of hope for the transportation industry. Something a little positive when there is SO much negativity out there right now.

The Western slope of the Rockies are having the same oil boom and needing drivers in Colorado and Wyoming. A lot of small towns are becoming boom towns packed with workers working for the oil industries.
It’s worth looking into.
I agree that there is way, way, waaaaaaay too much negativity. It’s mostly, but not completely, caused by the news media. (Insert rant against new media here). We’ve got what? less than five percent unemployment? What was it like in the Great Depression?
When I was a youngster I visited with some old folks….relatives mostly. Elderly folks, in their eighties and nineties back in the fifties and sixties. THEY had it tougher when they were younger. I heard some horror stories about crossing the Plains in a wagon..(some of these folks remembered the invention of the automobile) …fighting prairie fires with a burlap sack and a bucket of water while you’re house burned down behind you….and lots worse. They didn’t think nothing of it….that was life back then. A day at the office.
To them…all the problems we’re having now would be seen as nothing. They’d see us as kind of like a baby crying because it only had vanilla ice cream but he wanted butterscotch. I doubt they’d have much sympathy with us.
In reality things are getting better and better and we don’t even realize it….BECAUSE of all the focus on the negative. THESE ARE the good old days.
Still…it’s hard to be optimistic when everyone is whining (insert rant…here).
That’s one reason I use google for my news and avoid TV….Tv is too depressing.
