I have my locking fuel caps, they were about $80 each. I took them off during the winter because they would freeze up and even in the summer I have to keep shooting WD-40 in the lock to keep it working. When I was at the Louisville truck show I saw a great idea for locking fuel caps for trucks with a built in cover that looked like a great idea, but I now I can’t find my flyer I had from them.
Locking fuel caps are expensive and tough to keep dirt out of and to keep working in the winter, but right now, worth every penny.
No comments about the trucker the reporter found to comment, we’ve been through all that before.

I was wondering why the milage on my truck dropped so low until the regular gas thief stopped bothering to put the cap back on one night. So far so good with the locking cap.
Here’s a link for locking gas caps for cars and a few trucks. Locking Gas Caps You’re right I don’t think any comments are neccassary about the truck driver the reporter picked.
I have the anti syphon shields in my tanks, don’t know but expect they would be a good deterrent after they get the cap off and can’t get a hose in.
I had those in one truck, but the nozzle would never stay in without tying it down. Those are probably a better idea, because locks can fail especially during winter.
Did you catch the reporter call what we drive “cars”? She said “When they park their cars for the night and try to get some shut eye”! Way to go lady! For twelve years I drove a car for a living not a truck. I’m glad she could fill me in on that little fact! Will there ever be any news reporters out there who know what the heck they are talking about when it comes to trucks?
And at least the driver she found had at least 75% of his teeth and didn’t weigh 600 pounds and look like he rolled around in the sewer. It could have been worse.
Television “reporters” never know what they’re talking about. As drivers we can see that in this piece but the same holds true for any subject. They’re hired for their looks and dubious ability to deliver sound bytes without tripping over their words. Anyone who gets their “news” from TV is sadly misinformed of the facts. Network and local “news” programs exist for the sole purpose of selling advertising. “Breaking news” is the biggest offender, in the rush to trump the competition no attention is given to verifying details. The really sad thing is many people believe that if they saw it on TV “it has to be true”.
Gas caps are expensive, and removable, a Anti siphoning device is far better than any locking Gas cap.
For the best Anti Siphoning unit out there, especially for the American fuel tanks, are the Shepherds Gate - Anti Siphoning Lock.
