If you don’t already know it, this is a photo of Nancy Palosi, the Speaker of the House. To follow-up on an earlier post I did for “Life on the Road”, I am STILL undecided as to who to vote for.
I think I’m having too much fun staying non-committed. I can hate McCain one day and love him the next. The same goes for Palin, Biden and Obama. As far as Palosi is concerned, I never voted for her. She’s from California. I’m from Florida. I guess my representatives voted for her to be Speaker. But they never asked me, and I know I wouldn’t have approved.
The same for Barney Rubble, I mean Frank. And the rest of the House Democrats, whose names I choose not to remember, even as our economy is falling apart. I should know them all by now, but I don’t. I’ve been OTR for almost 40 days and have trouble remembering just about everything.
To digress a second, Bill Hurt Chevrolet, I believe the largest Chevy dealership in the US, just went out of business. 2700 good folks are out of work Not the salesmen, the – just kidding! He had 7 locations in the Southeast. One is right near where I live. I don’t know if it is because of what is happening with the “bailout” thing or not. I do know that people just can’t get credit and the price of a new car for some time now is out of reach of a lot of people, like “we” truck drivers.
Anyway, back to Palosi. I don’t really know that much about her. After hearing her little “speech” before the House vote on Monday, she sounds annoying. Almost as much as Sara Palin has become. And I must be honest with you, I now also find Obama annoying. McCain not so much, yet. I just don’t listen to Biden, unless I need a laugh.
But I don’t know what possessed her to say what she did – blame the economic sky falling – on the Republicans. This is most definitely a “joint” mess – Democrats and Republicans. Can you believe she is 3rd in line (do I have that correct?) to be Commander-in-Chief if anything happened to Bush or Cheney? Forget Sara, having Palosi as President – now that’s very scary. Who would be the VP – Barney Rubble – I mean, Frank? We would really be in trouble then.
Now, we mere mortals don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. But then who really cares? It’s the bottom line we’re all interested in. I had a 401K that I was going to tap into to buy a Harley when I turned 55, if I made it that long. After Monday, I can barely afford the handlebars. Hopefully, my investment will recover and perhaps I’ll be able to get credit and finance 1/2 the damn thing when I’m 65.
But not if Palosi has her way. Now I know one of the primary reasons the House has done little over the last two years. I might actually feel sorry for Bush. “Mr. President, Speaker Palosi is coming to over here today to meet with you and Barney Rubble, I mean Frank, regarding a whole bunch of really important things.” Poor George, having to listen to both of them whine about whatever. Worse than talking to truckers!
Today, Palosi is celebrating Rosh Hashanah with a ‘ole fashioned spahetti and meatball dinner (Kosher) at her mansion with all her liberal friends on Capital Hill. Tomorrow is another day. The Senate wants to take a crack at showing us what idiots they all are. Nobody is giving me any warm fuzzies. What about those 2700 folks who lost their jobs? Certainly no warm fuzzies for them either.
Let me close with a joke – Jay Leno on the Tonight Show – “Today I wrote a $5 check. The check was good, but the bank bounced.”

The thing that annoys me most about Pelosi is that she is the woman caricatures were made for: she for all the world reminds me of the email joke about how guys are supposed to intrpret what women are actually saying. . .(Reporter:”If you shut down Congress for the holiday, how are the Republicans supposed to get the compromise bill on energy we all need?”Pelosi: “I guess they’ll have to figure that out. . .”-and that’s a true exchange! ). I wanna slap her-and I’m a woman! Everything about her is partisan politics, no matter what the stakes-the bombers could be over San Fransisco and she’s be too busy blaming everybody-but-Democrats to approve a defense! She and Barney probably shop in the same ladies stores.
As for the car dealership problems, I kind of doubt that can truly be blamed on just the bail-out crisis: car sales have been in the tank for a long time and heading downward every week. The economy definitely isnt good-hasnt been. Just ask us up here in Michigan-most of us couldnt buy a new car if our lives depended on it. We’re too busy worrying about buying utilities this winter and groceries this week. Congress needs to take the blame for this current fiasco-their policies over the past thirty years have created this mess. Un-do-ing all of the banking regs that were put into place after the Depression helped crete a situation where they could change accounting rules to make huge amounts of money out of thin air and that’s where the problem lies. In the process, derivatives work like tearing a dollar bill into a bunch of pieces and trying to say each piece is now a dollar. My little piece wont buy a damed thing! If I were a banker, I wouldnt lend on that basis either. My personal opinion is right along the lines of this pic that was taken last week at the demonstrations on Wall Street: http://www.myconfinedspace.com/2008/09/29/jump-you-fuckers/ Kind of says it all. . .
Bill Heard Chevrolet Grumpy. They’re leaving one dealership open in Houston as I understand it.
