Indiana was the "test case" on this type of state legislation, I believe, Donna. The really odd thing was that they had to go manufacture the big stink about all of the medically-unqualified truckers that hit all of the papers in order to push this thru to the rest of the states. I havent talked to any Indiana drivers about this: Have they had any problems with the system?

And, V Grumpy: here in Michigan, the Dept of Motor Vehicles is directly under the Sec of State. Since the DMV are all just a bunch of bureaucrats and the Sec of State is an actual elected official, I figure I'm better off harassing the guy who's worrying about his next election. It may be different in other states but I've always been licensed out of Michigan so I dont know everybody's system. And, yes, our Sec of State is also in charge of elections. . .refused to allow Buchannan on the ballot here in 2000. . .that's one way to make sure your party stays in power. These politicians tick me off SO bad!

Linda - just out of curiosity why do you interface with the Secretary of State - in Florida that position is in charge of elections and other nonsense like the public restrooms at the State Capitol - she, now he, is a moron, pinhead and over-paid bureaucrat and worse a Republican. Do you recall the name Katherine Harris from the 1st Bush-Gore election? I find it much more rewarding to keep annoying my Congressman, the Governor and the dunderheads within the DOT. And of course, OOIDA needs a call or e-mail once in a while.

In Indiana, if the CDL is expired, revoked, canceled, disqualified or invalidated for over 1 year - then you have to take the knowledge and skills exams over.

If memory serves me correctly, Indiana gives you less than 60 days to get an updated CDL physical and if you get close to or past your certification date, the BMV actually sends a reminder that includes a phone number you can call to see if they did indeed receive your updated medical certification.

Thanks for the helpful info!
