175px-trucks_speed_55_signsvg11. Ohio and Illinois are moving ahead to eliminate those insane dual speed limits. If you live in these two states, it is vital that you pick up the phone and call your representatives. Voice your opinion right  now. Don’t wait. I spend a lot of money in both these states, but since I’m not a resident my opinion is (unfortunately) meaningless. Legislators there don’t want to hear from me, they need to hear from you. Now TN, CA, IN and all the other States that mistakenly passed these heinous dual speed limits have to get on the band wagon and change their laws. They are unsafe and just about everybody knows it.

2. “Some” folks” in the Obama Administration want to “develop” a NEW cross-border Mexican trucking program. Can you believe this? Are these people insane? That’s the same one that former President Bush was attempting to shove down our throats and the Senate recently abandoned. With everything else going on in this country, reintroducing this “program” is clearly pouring gasoline on the fire. I, for one, would recommend that the Administration spend more time trying to solve the drug cartel violence and the endless immigration problem and forget cross border trucking. That part of NAFTA ,was from the beginning, a really BAD idea.

3. HR1618 US House of Representatives – this bill seeks to hold the maximum truck weight to 80,000 lbs and the maximum length to 53 feet. Of course, there are always “others” in the industry who want longer and heavier trucks. Some have suggested 97,000 max. gross weight. I say hogwash. I’m being kind. Have you ever driven through Michigan and seen those trucks with goodness knows how many wheels? Have you seen the doubles and triples being shlepped up and down the turnpikes? And the long tankers out West? Or the doubles flatbeds? Ridiculous. Clearly states bending to pressure from lobbyists from industries with their own interests in mind. Again, call or e-mail your representatives and voice your opinion. I support the bill.

So drivers, here go again…again. Fasten your seat belts. Just when we might have thought “things” made some sense – everything we”re concerned about is up in the air again. I know many of you thought my previous post “Ode to Lyda Rose” was somehow “confusing” or “over-the-top”  but please read it again. And if you do, and see what’s happening AGAIN with the HOS (hours of service), NAFTA/cross-border trucking and the dual speed limits, don’t let them blow you into submission with their pitch pipe. We must fight the good fight. Don’t them them win, again.
