A new International LoneStar is the flagship truck pulling a specialized classroom trailer for Continental Truck Tire’s The Untamed Innovation Tour.
I spoke to the driver of the Lonestar and got this impression of the truck and what he’s doing on the tour. On the tour website the last update is in June and only mentions three stops. James assures me he’s kept extremely busy. Click on the pictures to get the larger versions.
James: As for the tour we have been very busy since mid March, you stated the last update was June, since then we have been covering the West and Northwest, (Stockton to Portland and then Denver) Now here we are in August and we have been east to Pittsburg, North Carolina and South Carolina, just left Dallas truck show Aug 23 heading north to Wisconsin then Toronto and Upstate New york, and that gets us into September.
LOTR: What do you think of the LoneStar?
James: The truck is totally amazing, it’s like driving an over sized pick up. Very smooth on the road, comfortable, and quiet inside. It has a simple 10 speed with a Cummins ISX 435 motor, plenty of power to pull the show trailer, the whole rig scales out at 57,000. At this point I am getting around 6.5 miles per gallon.
LOTR: What kind of attention does the LoneStar attract on the tour or at truck stops?
James: As for attention people of all ages just have to stare at it, still today people ask if it is it one of a kind. We did have some chrome items added from Chrome Shop Mafia, but most of it is stock. People have passed us on the road and pulled in front of us to take photos. Almost every truck stop we have entered I get drivers coming over and asking questions. Even at the tour stops people want to see the inside of the truck as much as they want to see the custom trailer. We can’t let them inside the truck, it’s not part of the show. But it’s amazing how much attention the truck draws.
LOTR:
How do you like the interior and the sleeper of the LoneStar?
James: The interior is loaded, we have the suite option with a full bench couch, fridge, TV and some pull out tables for work stations. As for the sleeper, I can’t tell you much, we have never used it, it’s a hotel every night. I will say this, the style and shape is out of this world. Along with the graphics and black paint and chrome it’s a very sharp truck.
LOTR: Thanks for the insight and we hope to be hearing more from you.
James: I would be glad to do more as i travel across the US and Canada
I usually try to stay out of the my-truck-is-better-than-your-truck argument but… This is one nice looking machine. It’s sleek, and looks just awesome! My first impression was a beast roaring down the interstate. I’m a pretty classic style guy. The Pete 379 is really my current style. I could definitely see my self in this rig if I could afford it!
Great post.
