Source:http://www.flickr.com/photos/31175232@N06/3057088532/Truck Driver Appreciation Week 2009 starts Sunday and runs through Nov 7. TDAW is like Christmas, the attitude of appreciating drivers should be year-round, not just one time during the year. Things have changed over the years, before TDAW was the best week to be driving. One company I was at had a huge BBQ, truck stops have varying degrees of TDAW specials and feebies.

Last year, I didn’t even notice a difference in prices, specials or even signs. There certainly isn’t any difference from people’s attitudes at the counters. I think I’ve said more “Thank-You’s” to the clerks for taking my money then I’ve received. How about a “Thanks for Spending $500 in 15 minutes, we know you have a choice of truck stops and appreciate you choosing Brand X truck stop.” Too much to ask for?

Now you’re supposed to be grateful for a job and grateful for the opportunity to make money for them and if someone can do it for less, move over. Be patient drivers, things will change, soon we’ll be hearing the same old argument of “driver shortages”, driver turnover and owner operators will be back to complaining about fuel costs, insurance, tires, labor at shops and all of the things everyone was talking about a few years ago.

Here at Life on the Road, we not only appreciate drivers, most of us are drivers. Those that aren’t drivers are still close to trucking and always appreciate drivers. We appreciate drivers so much, Life on the Road is free. Not only free to read, free to subscribe, free to comment and participate and mostly free of ads. Sure we throw one up on the side once in a while, but they’re usually small and they don’t pop up or bug you about crap you don’t need. Want to know as soon as updates are available? Use the RSS feed to subscribe or sign up for email alerts. Your email is safe with us, we don’t spam, no one sees your email but me and the marketing types aren’t getting it from this site!

Thanks for reading, thank you for participating and spread the word about Life on the Road.
