Being a high profile blog about trucking, I receive requests from newspapers and radio to either find someone or contribute my own opinion about something in trucking. Last week before the long holiday, NPR’s Talk of the Nation calls me and I’m invited to participate. A few days later, I talk to the producer and it’s all set, except they don’t do interviews on a cell phone, I offered to call from a pay phone, but they didn’t want to give out a number, that’s show biz.
I was contacted by a WSJ video blogger that wanted an interview with a trucker involved in technology if they came to Manhattan. I tried to explain that wasn’t going to happen unless I was delivering to a trade show at the Javitz and for anyone else, Manhattan isn’t on a normal truck route. Finally, I told him his best chance was at the Bordentown truck stop in New Jersey where he went and interviewed several truckers about their use of technology. I spoke at great length to a Chicago Tribune reporter and a couple of quotes made it into the article about trucking and truck repos. An internet radio show calls me for a five minute segment, not really mainstream, but it was something. There were others and some of our writers have also been in the mainstream media as well.
The point is, every now and then I get some sort of media request I can’t always fulfill myself or from the people I know. I’m asking all of the truckers and anyone involved with the trucking industry who would like to be in my electronic rolodex for the media send in your name, email, phone number, a brief bio and your expert topic to lifeontheroadblog@gmail.com. No one is going to spam you or sell your info. Sending your information you agree that it may be handed over to the media and there is no guarantee you will be contacted by the media, but if I have something for you I may email, but a lot of times, deadlines are involved and email is too slow.
Update: Thanks to everyone that has responded so far. When you see a trucker interviewed in the paper or on radio, ever wonder why they chose someone? Journalists are lazy, especially now with the Internet. I get an email, and probably anyone with a website gets an email from journalists looking for a quick soundbite, interview or opinion about trucking. I would prefer a quick list to call or refer these people to since I’m not always what they are looking for, ie: women, teams, wifes, vets, rookies, etc… I can’t cover all the bases by myself, but it would be great if I could refer them to someone I know who will be able to handle the situation and knows what they’re talking about.
